Aegoceras praecursor was named by Geyer (1886). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Coeloderoceras praecursor by Bremer (1965); it was recombined as Epideroceras praecursor by Alkaya and Meister (1995); it was recombined as Paramicroderoceras praecursor by Blau (1998), Geczy and Meister (2007); it was recombined as Eoderoceras praecursor by Zaitsev and Ippolitov (2023).
