Ammonites inconstanus was named by Schluter (1871).

It was corrected as Ammonites inconstans by Schlüter (1871); it was recombined as Acompsoceras inconstans by Kaplan et al. (1998); it was misspelled as Acompsoceras inconstanus by El Qot (2018).
