Taxonomy
Pycnodonte (Phygraea) sarmientoi was named by Casadio (1998). Its type specimen is GHUNLPam 6012, a valve, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerros Bayos, which is in a Danian deep subtidal ramp marl in the Roca Formation of Argentina.
