Menuites oralensis was named by Cobban and Kennedy (1993) [= 1937 Parapachydiscus complexus (Hall and Meek). Dane and others, p. 230.

= 1975 Menuites sp. Hirsch, p. 112, fig. 11 (not fig. 10).]. Its type specimen is USNM 456671 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS D1411. Cheyenne River bluff, which is in a Campanian offshore shale/limestone in the Pierre Shale Formation of Wyoming.
