Nautilus dorsoplicatus was named by Abich (1878). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Araxes Gorge, which is in a Wuchiapingian carbonate limestone in Azerbaijan.
It was recombined as Coelonautilus dorsoplicatus by Arthaber (1900).
