Taxonomy
Lampichthys was named by Fraser-Brunner (1949) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 560]. It is extant. Its type is Myctophum procerum.

It was assigned to Myctophinae by Fraser-Brunner (1949); to Gymnoscopelini by Schwarzhans (1980); to Myctophiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gymnoscopelinae by Martin et al. (2018), Schwarzhans (2019).
