This is a nomen nudem by now because it was never officially published. However, it was established to classify Ordovician species previously placed in the Cenozoic genera Proboscina and "Berenicea. As such, it is a useful placeholder until someone formally establishes this or an equivalent genus.

Tubulotrypa was named by Lobdell (1988). Its type is Alecto auloporoides.
