Taxonomy
Siphonophycus punctatus was named by Maithy (1975). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sample RG 32.453, drill core S13B, Kanshi, which is in a Tonian carbonate limestone in the Congo-Kinshasa.
It was recombined as Animikiea punctata by Mandal and Maithy (1984); it was corrected as Siphonophycus punctatum by Riedman et al. (2023).
