Atrypa nasuta was named by Conrad (1842).

It was recombined as Meristella nasuta by Hall (1860); it was recombined as Meristella (Whitfieldia) nasuta by Walcott (1884); it was recombined as Meristina nasuta by Boucot and Johnson (1968).
