R. Ross and P. A. Sims 1980 | Frustules united in straight but slightly twisted chains. Valves bipolar
or multipolar with a deep mantle and an elevation at each pole. At the top of each elevation two flattened linking spines that wrap around the corresponding elevation of the contiguous valve (Fig. 3); linking spines on one valve all arising on the proximal side of the elevations, on the other on the distal side. Areolae poroid, frequent on the valve surface and the inner sides of the elevations, few on the outer sides of the elevations, elsewhere very few and very distant. No pseudocelli. Cingulum consisting of one deep, cylindrical and undivided, conspicuously areolate copula and one less deep hyaline pleura (Figs 1-4, 6). |
