Taxonomy
Ancyloceras simplex was named by d'Orbigny (1842). Its type specimen is MNHN R04338, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Dirrymoceras.
It was recombined as Crioceras simplex by Douvillé (1916); it was recombined as Dirrymoceras simplex by Hyatt (1900), Arkell et al. (1957).
