Ammonites desplacei was named by d'Orbigny (1845) [Actually named desplacii on page 334 but corrected as desplacei on the plate. The name desplacii is used by several 19th century publications but not subsequently.]. Its type specimen is MNHN R.1418 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Peronoceras desplacei by Enay et al. (1994).
