Trochus undosus was named by Wood (1828). It is extant.

It was recombined as Astraea (Pomaulax) undosa by Grant, IV and Gale (1931), Hall (2002); it was recombined as Pomaulax undosus by Valentine (1956); it was recombined as Astraea undosa by Chace (1956); it was recombined as Astraea (Megastraea) undosua by McLean (1970); it was recombined as Astraea (Megastraea) undosa by Keen (1971); it was recombined as Megastraea undosa by Alf (2019), Hendy (2021).

Synonyms
  • Trochus balaenarum was named by Valenciennes (1846). It is extant.

Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
A. Alf 2019Large, whorls flat-sided, or slightly convex; periphery marked by undulating, strongly projecting carination. Sculpture of diagonal ridges interrupted to form nodes, base with four spiral cords. Color light reddish brown to whitish under thick lamellar periostracum. Operculum with three sharply tuberculate, uncurved ridges, darkly stained near nucleus. Height 60–117 mm.
