Taxonomy
Ammonites mitreanus was named by d'Orbigny (1850). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.R03118 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Olcostephanus (Olcostephanus) mitreanus by Cooper (1981).

Synonyms
  • Olcostephanus wynnei was named by Spath (1939). It is not extant.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Olcostephanus (Olcostephanus) mitreanus by Cooper (1981).
  • Astieria detonii was named by Rodighiero (1919). It is not extant.
