Posidonioceramus merewetheri was named by Walaszczyk and Cobban (2016) [= 1977 “Inoceramus” moberliensis McLearn, n. subsp.; Kauffman, pl. 3, fig. 7.
1978 “Inoceramus” moberliensis McLearn, n. subsp.; Kauffman et al., pl. 7, fig. 7.]. Its type specimen is USNM 544387 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is D10892. Station 191. Low Benton, Crow Indian Reservation, which is in a Cenomanian marine limestone in the Thermopolis Formation of Montana.
