Akidograptus ascensus was named by Davies (1929). Its type specimen is SM Al 0021 (colony) and is a 3D body fossil.

S. H. Williams 1983Small rhabdosome up to 1 mm wide with protracted thP and 12. Thecae, numbering about eleven in 10 mm, with almost vertical, straight supragenicular walls, rounded genicula, and short, straight, gently inclined interthecal septa. Apertures slightly everted, excavations narrow but Jong. Virgella commonly forked.
