Taxonomy
Ammonites humphriesianus was named by Sowerby (1825). It is the type species of Stephanoceras.

It was recombined as Stephanoceras humphriesianus by Buckman (1898); it was recombined as Coeloceras humphriesianus by Douvillé (1916).
