Marginifera typica crassicostata was named by Reed (1944). Its type specimen is GSI 16871, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Marginifera typica by Grant (1968); it was recombined as Marginifera crassicostata by Termier et al. (1974).
