Taxonomy
Avonia walcottiana costata was named by King (1931) [Avonia walcottiana costata]. Its type specimen is T10282a and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is University of Texas T240, Hill 5801, Glass Mountains, which is in a Roadian carbonate limestone in the Word Formation of Texas.
It was recombined as Avonia costata by Cloud (1944); it was recombined as Costispinifera costata by Cooper and Grant (1975).
