Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
J. P. Downs et al. 2016As the largest known species of Bothriolepis, Bothriolepis rex is distinguished from the majority of Bothriole- pis species by its large body size (cephalic C thoracic armor length conservatively estimated at 700 mm) and dermal skeletal plates that are thick and compact. Among the known large-bod- ied species of Bothriolepis (B. maxima and B. gigantea), Bothrio- lepis rex is diagnosed by the presence of a preorbital recess with a horizontal rostral margin on the premedian; a wide unorna- mented border surrounding the premedian’s infraorbital sensory line; caudally positioned central sensory lines that meet the mar- gin of the nuchal close to the lateral corners; a supraotic thicken- ing that does not extend caudal to a transverse crista of the nuchal’s visceral surface; and a tall lateral lamina of the ADL (height/length [H/L] index of 0.4).
