Taxonomy
Oncorhynchus salax was named by Smith (1975). Its type specimen is UMMP 62100, a partial skull (an incomplete skull), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Shoofly Creek, which is in a Pliocene fluvial horizon in the Glenns Ferry Formation of Idaho.
