Taxonomy
Helminthochiton thraivensis was named by Reed (1911). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Threave Glen Starfish Bed, which is in a Rawtheyan carbonate limestone in the South Threave Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Gotlandochiton thraivensis by Sirenko and Starobogatov (1977); it was recombined as Septemchiton thraivensis by Rolfe (1981); it was recombined as Phthipodochiton thraivensis by Sutton and Sigwart (2012).
