Taxonomy
Goniatites amarensis was named by Korn and Ebbighausen (2025). Its type specimen is MfN MB.C.32215.1, a shell, and it is a mold. Its type locality is Sidi Amar, sample 1, which is in a Visean carbonate limestone in Morocco.
