Trigonia pichimoncolensis was named by Lambert (1944). It is the type species of Lambertrigonia.
It was recombined as Maputrigonia pichimoncolensis by Leanza and Garate (1987); it was recombined as Lambertrigonia pichimoncolensis by Leanza (1993).
