Keithospongos loricatus was named by Kolesnikov et al. (2024). Its type specimen is PIN 5895/101, an other, and it is a compression fossil. It is the type species of Keithospongos.

K. A. Kolesnikov et al. 2024Cylindrical hazeliid sponge with rounded base and single apical osculum. Body is thin-walled, with irregular skeleton of straight oxeas of uniform shape and size. The dermal skeletal layer consists of tangentially oriented, densely and evenly spaced oxeas, often forming meandering tracts with a weak sub-longitudinal orientation to generate a spiral arrangement. The skeleton bears tufts of external oxeas oriented normally to the body surface, with weaker projecting spicule fabric in other areas
