Taxonomy
Niquivilispongia asteria was named by Carrera et al. (2025). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Niquivil, which is in a Dapingian reef, buildup or bioherm bindstone/carbonate in the San Juan Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Niquivilispongia.
