Taxonomy
Goniatites micronotus was named by Phillips (1836). Its type specimen is c262a, Natural History Museum, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Glyphioceras micronotum by Foord and Crick (1897); it was recombined as Beyrichoceras micronotum by Bisat (1924); it was recombined as Bollandoceras micronotum by Korn and Tilsley (2006).

Tilsley 2006Species of Bollandoceras with pachyconic conch in juveniles stages (ww/dm 0.70-0.80 up to 6 mm diameter); relative conch width decreasing during ontogeny to 0.40 at a diameter of 40 mm. Umbilicus relatively widest at 2-3 mm diameter (uw/dm 0.40), becoming very narrow (uw/dm 0.10-0.15) between 10 and 40 mm. Whorl expansion rate low in juveniles (WER 1.50), increasing to more than 2.00 at more than 16 mm diameter (WER 2.15 at 30-40 mm diameter). Ornament of biconvex growth lines; steinkern with faint, slightly biconvex constrictions. Suture with gently inflexed, slightly diverging flanks of the external lobe
