Xenothrix inconcreta was named by Awramik and Barghoorn (1977). Its type specimen is Sch-W-CF-11 and is a 3D fossil preserving soft parts. It is the type species of Xenothrix.

S. M. Awramik and E. S. Barghoorn 1977Nonseptate, dumbbell-shaped microfossil 64 pm long; spheres at ends 12.6 µm in diameter with the curved tube connecting the spheres 5.5 µm in diameter. Surface sculpture is finely reticulate to crustose. No internal structures known. Reproductive structures unknown.
