Cardiola retrostriata tenuicosta was named by Sandberger and Sandberger (1854). Its type specimen is Nr. 932c and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type subspecies of Planocardia.
It was recombined as Planocardia tenuicosta by Grimm (1998).
