Taxonomy
Vorticifex lasseni was named by Taylor and Smith (1981). Its type specimen is UMMZ 250100, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Honey Lake Collection B, which is in a Pliocene lacustrine - small siltstone in the Alturas Formation of California.
