Taxonomy
Menetus carinifex was named by Taylor and Smith (1981). Its type specimen is UMMZ 250115, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mopung Hills locality A, which is in a Pliocene lacustrine limestone in the Truckee Formation of Nevada.
