Arotus hieroglyphus
Taxonomy
Ceratodus hieroglyphus was named by Cope (1876). Its type specimen is AMNH FF 7080, a dermal scale, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is AMNH MT-10 Judith River 2, which is in a Campanian terrestrial horizon in the Judith River Formation of Montana.
It was synonymized subjectively with Acipenser eruciferus by Estes (1964); it was recombined as Arotus hieroglyphus by Gardner et al. (2025).
