Hoplites (Hoplites) maritimus was named by Owen (1971). It is not extant. Its type specimen is NHMUK C.862a. Its type locality is Copt Point, Folkestone, Lower Greensand, Bed I (v), which is in an Albian shallow subtidal sandstone in the Folkestone Formation of the United Kingdom.
