Ancientia rossi was named by Schallreuter (1981). Its type specimen is GPIMH 2441 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Erratic boulder G13, which is in a Pirgu/Porkuni marine chert in the Ojlemyr Flint Formation of Sweden.
