Taxonomy
Gerpegezhus daniaoriundus was named by Schrøder and Carnevale (2025). Its type specimen is FUM-N-14039a+b, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Graven at Stendal Høje, which is in a Ypresian offshore ramp horizon in the Fur Formation of Denmark.

Carnevale 2025Gerpegezhus daniaoriundus n. sp. is unique in having the following combination of characters: body extremely elongate and slender, its depth contained about 15 times in SL; 39 or 40 vertebrae; caudal fin with 16 unbranched rays; dorsal fin with five rays; anal fin with 16 rays; pectoral fin with eight unbranched and unsegmented rays; body surface covered by two dorsal bilateral series of interconnected bony plates; dorsal component of the bony armor comprises two bilateral series of plates of 40 narrow and 36 subrectangular plates; ventral component of the body armor absent; up to 59 unpaired leaf-like appendages protruding from ventral part of body.
