Taxonomy
Salmo esmeralda was named by La Rivers (1966). Its type specimen is BSN unnumbered, a mandible, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Alum Mine, which is in a Pliocene terrestrial tuff in the Esmeralda Formation of Nevada.
