Taxonomy
Obaichthys laevis was named by Wenz and Brito (1992). Its type specimen is DGM 1155 P, a partial skeleton (skull, one scale, isolated vertebra), and it is a compression fossil. It is the type species of Dentilepisosteus.
It was recombined as Dentilepisosteus laevis by Grande (2010).
