It was assigned to Sphenodontinae by Reynoso (1996), Apesteguía and Novas (2003), Rauhut et al. (2012), Reynoso and Cruz (2014) and Cau et al. (2014); and to Sphenodontidae by Apesteguia et al. (2012) and Herrera-Flores et al. (2018).
