Teratosaurus suevicus
Taxonomy
Teratosaurus suevicus was named by Meyer (1861). Its type specimen is BMNH 38646, a maxilla, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Heslach quarries, Stuttgart, "Heslacher Wand", which is in a Norian fluvial-lacustrine sandstone in the Löwenstein Formation of Germany. It is the type species of Teratosaurus.
It was recombined as Zanclodon suevicus by Lydekker (1888), Fraas (1896), Fraas (1900) and Nopcsa (1901); it was misspelled as Zanclodon suecicus by Spangenberg (1898), Huene (1905), Huene (1908), Huene (1914), Huene (1914), Huene (1915), Van Hoepen (1920), Schmidt (1938), Kuhn (1939), Young (1941), Walker (1964), Charig (1967), Steel (1970), Swinton (1970), Kuhn (1971), McIntosh (1981), Welles (1984), Galton (1985), Benton (1986), Parrish (1993) and Brusatte et al. (2009).
