Paffrathopsis was named by Frýda (2000) [originally named in Frýda 1998b (dissertation; ref # 15935)]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Naticopsinae by Frýda (2000); to Paffrathinae by Heidelberger (2001); and to Paffrathiinae by Heidelberger and Koch (2005), Wagner (2023).
