Serripecten marwicki was named by Maxwell (1992) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; South Island, New Zealand.]. Its type specimen is TM 6980, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is J40/f182 - Waimate [Waihao Greensand], which is in a Bortonian marine sandstone in the Waihao Greensand Formation of New Zealand.
