Gyrodes allisoni was named by Murphy and Rodda (1960) [m. kosnik taxon no: 9663]. Its type specimen is UCLA 28629 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCLA loc. 3464, which is in a Cenomanian marine sandstone in the Budden Canyon Formation of California.
It was recombined as Natica allisoni by Murphy (1960), Popenoe et al. (1987).
