Ampullonatica was named by Sacco (1890) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m T Mi; m. kosnik taxon no: 9825].

It was synonymized subjectively with Euspira by Kabat (1991).

It was assigned to Globulariinae by Glibert (1963); to Naticidae by Abbass (1967); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ampullinidae by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995), Caze et al. (2011).
