Patagospyris was named by Haeckel (1881) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R]. It is extant. Its type is Petalospyris confluens.

It was assigned to Triospyrididae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
