Cocculinidae was named by Dall (1882) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5265]. It is extant. It is the type family of Cocculinoidea.
It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Wienrich (2001); to Cocculinacea by Knight et al. (1960) and Kosnik (2002); and to Cocculinoidea by Beesley (1998) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
