Cystiscus was named by Stimpson (1865) [m. kosnik taxon no: 8220]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Hyalina (Cystiscus) by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was reranked as Marginella (Cystiscus) by Valentine (1958).

It was assigned to Hyalina by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); to Marginella by Valentine (1958); to Marginellidae by Wilson (1993); and to Cystiscidae by Todd (2001).
