Limea (Escalima) was named by Iredale (1929) [m. kosnik taxon no: 8329]. Its type is Lima acclinis.

It was reranked as Escalima by Vokes (1980), Kosnik (2002), Spencer et al. (2004).

It was assigned to Limea by Lamprell and Whitehead (1992); and to Limidae by Vokes (1980), Kosnik (2002), Spencer et al. (2004).
