Pseudoliva attenuata was named by Wade (1926) [m. kosnik taxon no: 6988]. Its type locality is Dave Weeks place, Coon Creek, which is in a Campanian coastal sandstone in the Ripley Formation of Tennessee.

It was recombined as Fulgerca attenuata by Stephenson (1941) and Stephenson (1941).
