Taxonomy
Hercorhyncus malleiforme was named by Stephenson (1941). Its type specimen is USNM 77008 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Hercorhyncus (Hercorhyncus) malleiformis by Sohl and Koch (1984).
