Isoarcidae was named by Keen (1969) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5052].

It was assigned to Nuculanacea by Vokes (1980); to Ctenodontoidea by Nevesskaja (2009); and to Nuculanoidea by Bouchet et al. (2010) and Carter et al. (2011).
